Site Update
That's the end of the series of posts about WAITS. It was interesting to compare this to TOPS-10, and the saildart.org archive was a gold mine of information about how the system was used.
There is much more to explore - some of the items that are on the disk images available to run under emulation that I did not have time to look at include:
- The email and user-to-user communication system, including an early implementation of the finger protocol.
- The SUDS 2D drawing system and the GEOMED modeller.
- Several classic AI programs, for example Scott and Milner's Logic of Computable Functions and Luckham's theorem prover.
- User utilities, including the CAM/FED compare and merge system.
- Numerous hardware-specific subsystems, including robotics and music.
This blog will resume in late October when I plan to start looking at the IBM System/360 and its early operating systems.
